Can we take him home, Pleeeaaase?
He almost looks like one of the gang, doesn’t he?
Every once in
a while the lambs get a very special treat, especially when a visitor comes.
This time, half of the lambs got to visit the local lemur park with Jerry
and Paula Bates, visitors to Betikara from Fraley’s Chapel Church of Christ
in Mississippi, and this time they wanted to take a lemur home with them!
Betikara would
like to say a big thank you to Jerry and Paula. You visited us, you
played with us, you took us to the lemur park, and you showed how much
you love us. Thank you, Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Paula. We love you
too.
Ready to Roof

Jean Ba, foreman
of the Betikara building project, stood up during Sunday worship several
weeks ago and asked for the prayers of the congregation, “We are getting
ready to lift those huge rafters onto the main part of the school building
and we need His help so that none of us dies in the process.”
It was at that
moment, that we decided we weren’t going to risk any lives. From
the beginning, the Betikara building project has been a hands on project.
The only thing we have used any kind of special building equipment for,
was when the dump trucks hauled in sand for making cement. Everything
else at Betikara, from clearing land to digging rock out of the ground,
from digging and planting the massive garden to creating the rice paddy,
from finishing rock to raising walls, and from raising the roof over the
orphanage end of the building to this point, has been done by hand.
BUT! It’s just asking too much to expect someone to risk his life
to raise a rafter that weighs somewhere in the ton range for the Betikara
school.
This time we
are going to relent and hire a machine to lift the 15 rafters into place.
We hope to complete the placement of these massive wood rafters in one
day at the cost of approximately $1,000.00. If it takes more than
one day, we will pay another $1000.00. When it is finished, VOILA!,
the large all-purpose part of the building that will house a school during
the week and serve as a worship room on weekends will be nearly finished.
Only wiring for electricity and the finish coat of cement on the floors
remains. It has been a six year project but the main building is
almost done, many thanks to those of you who have supported us financially
and prayerfully for these many years. You are as much a part of this
work as we are.
