Primary School Test Results

The tests for the primary students at Betikara are finished and we have the results. Of the four students that took the junior high entrance test only two passed. Elia and Robina will be entering their first year of junior high starting in September 2007.

Freda

Freda, who is now eight years old was one of the students who did not pass. Considering that the primary school goes through the 6th grade, we are not surprised or concerned that Freda will be repeating her 6th grade year. Freda is only eight years old, and most eight year olds are only in the 4th grade. There is still a lot of time for her to study and make the test.

Andry

Andry, on the other hand is a totally different story. Andry is now 18 years old and has attempted to pass the junior high entrance test for the past three years. At this point the local school will not accept him back for a fourth try. We have checked with some trade schools here in the Antananarivo area, only to find that they will not accept students that do not have at least a primary school leaving certificate. We ask that you continue to pray for Andry and Betikara as we try to figure out what is in store for Andry’s future, both at Betikara and throughout his life.
The junior high students that we mentioned in the June Betikara newsletter (Clara, Jean Marc, Yosly, and Fetra) are in the middle of their qualifying exams for high school this week. Please remember them and pray as they take the tests, and as they get ready for a new experience in a new school.

New Workers at Betikara
Several staff changes recently took place at Betikara. Tina and Hianitra are now caregivers for the boy Lambs at Betikara. Formerly, Tina was the head guard, and Hianitra was one of the two cooks for the Lambs. Now, Tina and Hianitra take over the responsibility of the school, medical, and everyday oversight of the boys.

Tina and Hianitra - Caregivers

Because Tina and Hianitra are now caregivers for the boys, we have a need for two new workers at Betikara. Olivier (not pictured) is the head guard in Tina’s place, and his wife Jenny is one of the two cooks along with Justine. Although Jenny has never worked for Betikara in the past, she comes highly recommended. Olivier has worked faithfully as a manual laborer for Betikara since February 2001, the date that we started breaking land at the Betikara site.

Jenny And Justine - Cooks

Now, Olivier is one of the Betikara staff that takes care of the orphanage needs on a daily basis. Justine has cooked for Betikara from August of 2004 when the Lambs first moved into the new building at Ambohimarina.
There are a lot of changes going on at Betikara, not counting the fact that the Rosie family will be removed from the daily life of the Lambs for several months. Please pray for the new staff and old staff that are experiencing job changes at the present time. We pray that the changes will go smoothly and benefit the Lambs in the coming months.
