Dear
Family in Christ,
Tomorrow, we finish our bonding experience and move
out of our mud house in the bush. It's
a momentous day for us, because it will be a milestone in beginning our work
here in Kenya'. Our motivation has been
1 Cor. 9:19-23, and we hope that in some small way, we will win Luos to Christ
because we have become Luos. This time
in the bush, has been the most eye opening experience in our life and probably
the most enriching. Not only have we
learned how to talk with them, and live like them (eating the same diet,
washing at the river, carrying our water, hoeing the fields by hand) but they
have taught us to reassess our priorities, and to be happy and useful without
everything we desire at our fingertips.
Our next step in language learning is to hire a tutor for the next few
months. This will help us enlarge and refine our skills in speaking Luo.
As of Saturday April 12th we will be officially
settled into our own house in Kisii and neighbors to the Barr family. It sure is good to have a place of our own again,
and we're pleased and thankful to be so close to the Barr’s. Daily we thank God for their guidance and
support. Please pray for us all as we
grow together in this work for Christ.
This past month Barry has preached at Winyo, Nyarach,
and Oruba. We have upcoming appointments to speak to the churches in Asumbi,
Saramba, and Abambra. All are already
established churches of various sizes and maturity in Christ. A few of these churches have asked me to
speak to the women, and I am anxious to set up a few children's classes. Also please pray for our upcoming
appointments. Our calendar is quickly filling up.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers daily. Please keep the letters coming. It's so good to hear from home. Next month's letter will contain our quarterly budget. Thank you so much for your support, both financial and emotional.
For
Christ among the Luo,
Barry
