Dear family in Christ,
This
is our sixth month in Kenya, and each month gets better. We've had a few
trials, but we're settling in, and beginning to teach and be an active part of
the Church growth here. Again, we want,
first of all, to say thanks to all of you, who are a part of this work with us.
We
completed our bonding on April 11, spent a week in our own house, and then were
off to a 4-day ladies course in Mbita.
Mbita is an area located on Lake Victoria at an extreme end of
South Nyanza. Twenty-five ladies
attended the course. This was many more
than we expected because public transportation for the women is very expensive,
and also because April is a month when they have much work to do on their
fields which all goes to show, just how dedicated these ladies are. The course was aimed at the Christian
women. The subject: How to teach your
friends about Jesus. Several men
traveled to Mbita also, to cook the meals for the women. And at night they held
evangelistic type meetings to try to reach some of the people in the area. These Christians follow the Bible more
closely than Americans. They literally
preached till midnight. We all
considered the meeting successful, but everyone was anxious to return home
after the tiring weekend.
Upon
arriving back home on Sunday, we received the news that Faye Barr's mother
passed away on Sunday afternoon April 20th.
The Barr's have
returned to the states for a while so Barry & l are on our own. Please keep the Barr family in your prayers,
as they travel and spend some time with their families.
Next
week, Barry goes to a place called Mac Calder, a fifty mile trip to an area
with great potential for a new congregation in Our Lords Body. This is his first time to go out and teach
alone. Please pray for his success, and
for more new Christians.
We love you all,
Barry and Stacy
