Dear Brethren across the Big
Lake,
Hello from Kenya! If the above heading looks a little unusual
to you it's because "Big Lake" is Luo terminology for ocean. Each day out teaching and relating to the
Luo brethren we get many questions from them about their brethren in the United
States. They are very interested in
you. Perhaps as interested as you are
in them. That is why we thought we would give the Luo brethren an opportunity
to greet so that you can begin to know each other better. Barry has asked each of the new churches
that he is working with to greet you.
Below are the translations of their letters.
GOD KWACH CHURCH OF CHRIST
This warm Christian greeting
is hoped to reach all the churches of Christ in the U.S.A. and elsewhere in the
whole world. We at God Kwach church of
Christ feel it very special at this moment to exhort our beloved brothers and
sisters everywhere they are, to the good work of our Father God for every human
race on earth. We feel grateful to do
this in the name of God's own Son Jesus.
In this connection we remember very much the creation of man and all
powers bestowed on him to be the ruler of every creature on earth. We therefore, believe in the love of God,
which is universal and must be the reason for our being. Bible Reading: John 14:15-19.
RUGA GEM CHURCH OF CHRIST
Dear brothers we greet you in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We love you our brothers and
sisters and we hope that you are together with us in that love. God has helped us to grow and the Christians
are trying to grow, so we ask you to pray to God for us and our brother Barry
Otieno who comes to our area as a teacher.
He has worked hard. Our troubles
are these; we are without doctors and we have Christians who are widows and
orphans. Pray for us. These are our words. All the Ruga brethren greet you.
KANJIRI CHURCH OF CHRIST
Many greetings to all of you
who are our brothers and sisters who are across the Big Lake in America. We have had much good growth along with our
brother Barry Otieno. We are hurting
because of these; children who are orphans, widows, and people who are very
sick. May God guard you.
SINDO CHURCH OF CHRIST
To our dear brothers. First, we greet you all in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ who is praised, and we hope that you are well in the Lord
Jesus. We are happy to tell you that in
the Sindo area we are with three churches that our brother in Christ Barry
Otieno has helped to start, and we have many Christians. We have widows and orphans, and it is hard
for us to build a church building so that we can pray and worship Him. We are now worshipping under a tree, and
that hinders us from adding more Christians to the church. May God who is in
heaven above guard you until we are together as one just as God and His son
Jesus are one. Thank you.
Barry and I are just fine,
and as you have just read, the churches in South Nyanza are fine and growing
also. We have a special thank you to
say to the folks of Hermitage Road congregation who so generously sent one of
their elders to visit the work here and to minister to us. We enjoyed their visit and hope they went
home with a much better understanding of the work among the duo tribe of South
Nyanza. They surely gave us a lift by
their visit.
We
are down to the home stretch folks.
Just three more weeks here in Kisii before we go into Nairobi to await
the coming of our baby. Pray for us and
especially for the baby through this next month.
We
are praying for you as you work and pray in your areas.
Sincerely,
Barry
