Greetings from Kenya,
To the Saints that worship our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
in America. May the blessings and peace of our Lord be upon you.
in this new year. We thank the Lord daily for the support that we
receive from you in many various ways. Especially we thank Hi(r)
for your continued prayers for the work that is going on among the Luo
people of South Nyanza. It is heartwarming to know that you are committed
to helping the lost throughout the world.
Many things have been happening lately that have showed
us God is in control. First, we have been praying a long time for
co-workers to come and join the work here in South Nyanza. The fulfillment
of this is approaching quickly. The Roger (Sue, Rogers wife, and
Naomi and Rhea) Moon family has found a sponsoring congregation in Indianapolis,
Indiana. They are looking to be able to arrive in Kenya around May
of this year Lord willing. The name and address of their sponsoring
congregation is:
Kingsly Terrace Church of Christ
2031 East 30th Street
Indianapolis, Indiana 46218
All inquiries or support can be sent in care of Brother Duaine Himes
who is an elder at this congregation. Second, there is another family
that is also presently seeking support to come and join the work here in
Luo land. This is the David (Becky, David's wife, and two small children)
High family. David and Becky have been in contact with Hermitage
Road Church of Christ in Richmond, Virginia. However this is still
in the first stages of development as David and Becky will be taking a
survey trip to see the work in South Nyanza and meet our family before
any firm decisions are made. We ask you to pray for both of these
families as Christ works in their decision making. Many times, as
we found out, one of the hardest times in doing mission work is that of
trying to raise the necessary support to reach and stay on the field.
The church growth study for 1989 has been finished after
two long months of work in compiling statistics. Presently there
are 38 churches in South Nyanza making a total of 622 Christians overall
versus 487 Christians in 1988. This shows the average church size
is around 16 Christians. There are 135 more Christians this year
than last giving a church growth of 27.7%. Ninety nine of these Christians
were baptized into the Lord in 1989 and 36 came from other denominations
or returned to the church after having fallen away in the past. We
thank our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for the growth that we have seen,
and pray continually for wisdom and guidance as we strive to mature the
church in South Nyanza. May this be your prayer also as together
we serve the Lord in Kenya, East Africa.
One of greatest teaching tools being used in America is
some form of mass media. Many forms are not readily available to
us here in Kenya, however, printed material is used widely by the denominations
presently in Kenya, and by us when funds are available. In the past
we have used this means of communication and seen good results from it.
What I would like to request of you, either as a congregation or an individual,
is funds to be put in a printing account to be used to spread God's Word
among the Luo people of South Nyanza. Many people request printed
material about the teachings of the Lords Body and many materials are supplied
when possible. We would like to make this an ongoing part of the
Lords work with your help. If you are interested, send your help
to the Fraley's Chapel address which is at the beginning of this newsletter
labeled Printing Fund for the Luo work".
We would like to say a special thanks to all of
you who have sent greeting cards, letters and gifts to make our holiday
season bright and full of love and happiness. May the Lord bless
your thoughts and prayers while watching over you in this new year.
We love and appreciate all of you for your support of the Lords work in
South Nyanza, Kenya.
In Christ we stand,
The Rosie Family
