Dear fellow workers among the Luo,
When Jesus prayed one evening, just before
his death,
He said to His father, "I have
made Thy name known
to them, and will make it known;
that the love
wherewith Thou didst love Me may
be in them, and I
in them."
John 17:26.
Christ made His Father's name known to you and now He and His love dwells
in you. That is
why you are so much a part of the work among the Luo. For you
have in turn spread that
love and the name of the Father, to us and to the Luo people.
Because of you many many wonderful things are happening in His church
here in Luo land.
Here are just a few bits of current news to show you how you are increasing
the kingdom
for Him:
* Your constant and continued financial support and especially your emotional support and confidence in us makes it possible for our family to continue in this work we love so well.
* We attended 7 baptisms this month. Five were added to His number in the Kanjiri congregation, one precious soul was added to the Ugoro congregation and one was added to the church here in Kisii town. We are sure there are more, as the Luo brethren often teach and baptize without help from us.
* 130 World Bible School students have been signed up to study in Homa Bay town and hopefully will soon be added to the number at the Homa Bay church. 8 of those WBS students have already requested baptism. Special thanks to the Westside Church in Akron, Ohio for their special efforts in this area.
* The Homa Bay church is also making it's first attempt to go and plant seed in another area in South Nyanza.
* The Nyarach congregation of the Lord's Body are making an effort to work with the deaf Christians in the nearby town of Rongo. Quite a feat by the power of Christ considering they do not know sign language but still desire to spread the Love among the brethren.
* And a very special show of love and spiritual maturity was exhibited by 3 congregations this month who have been wrestling with the problem of some false brethren, wolves in sheep's' clothing, who have been attempting to spread pride and jealousy through the churches instead of love. These Christians from the 3 congregations invited us to come and spend the night with them. The problem was discussed thoroughly while we sat by and listened. Several hours were then spent in reading the Scripture and in prayer, and the brethren decided to solve this problem with prayer and fasting. One day of fasting and prayer has already been observed this month, and more are planned, putting this problem that has troubled South Nyanza for years into the hands of God, and waiting patiently for His will to be done, and His love to be spread.
* A year and a half ago the Asumbi congregation of the Lords Body made a grievous error. They became more concerned with earthly wealth and sacrificed their spiritual lives when they decided as a group to become a part of a denomination which was promising tractors to plow their land, clothing and paid positions for church members. We rejoice to tell you that Asumbi has returned to the fold this month, confessing their error in sacrificing doing God's Will in order to gain a life of ease on this earth.
* We've been involved in a ministry for the past two years because of your generous support and we would like to share it with you. In response to one of our monthly newsletters we received a phenomenal amount of money from you to help with a time of hunger and sickness. You gave so much that we are still able to help the really needy here in the household of faith. Over 30 tons of corn was distributed among the churches to help in that time of hunger. And with the excess money, many have been helped in their time of sickness. In this past year, 45 different Christians were helped with medicine, hospital fees, and doctor fees. Here are just a few examples:
- Joash Kadwe (who I have mentioned to you in the past) still suffers from cerebral malaria. He has been sick for almost a year, has lost his job, and because of his condition makes it difficult for his wife to plant in their fields. You helped to provide his medical fees, along with doctor fees for a few of his children who have been sick and for whom he has been unable to provide. You also continue to help his family with food as he continues to suffer.
- Consolata Auma would have died without your help and love. Several months ago she suffered a bowel obstruction that needed emergency surgery to correct. Thanks to you and Christ who dwells in you Consolata is well today and giving her all to her Saviour.
- Lewnida Akinyi, a widow who has not been cared for by her extended family, is in the hospital this month for blood transfusions due to severe anemia. She has been very ill for a year. Your help is paying her hospital and medicine fees and the Christians here have donated blood in her behalf.
- Julius Adika from the Kanjiri congregation has a child who has suffered for 10 years with severe epileptic seizures, missing school often, and injuring himself frequently when attacked by unexpected convulsions. He has been seizure free for a month now thanks to that love that Christ has given you and that you have given in return.
These are just a few instances of fruit that is produced because Christ
and His love
dwells in you, and you are spreading it to us and to the Luo's in return.
When the
Rosie's came to the field, we committed ourselves to at least 15 years.
Five of
those years have passed already and there is much more to do. 15 may
not even be
enough. We hope to complete as many as the Lord wills.
And we hope and pray that
you will continue with us in increasing His Kingdom in Kenya.
We pray for you and
your work for Him there in our homeland and we pray for all to be done
for His love
and for His glory.
In Christ,
Barry, Stacy & Kit Rosie
