Greetings in Jesus name,

Things are going as well as possible, for, This Is Kenya.  Stacy, Kit
and myself are well and busy every day, either here fixing the house, or
out in South Nyanza with our Luo brothers and sisters.  Last month we held
two courses (one for evangelism and the other for leadership training),
each taking three days, as well as many other outings.
During our course for evangelism we were able to sign up one hundred
and thirty six World Bible School students.  We preached to groups of over
one hundred people at a time.  And for Sunday morning worship there were
ninety five in attendance at a congregation that normally has only ten
members.  Needless to say, this was one of our better courses.  Also, there
is a group of people that came to meet with us that are interested in
becoming Christians and we will soon be meeting with them to see if a
united effort for His Kingdom is possible.  It sure would help out the
Ndhiwa congregation with numerical growth, and more importantly spiritual
edification.
After reading the preceding paragraph, you may be wondering why I said
things are going as well as possible.  Well... in last months newsletter
Stacy told you we were rejoicing about having a new phone.  I do not know
if anyone has tried to call us since then or not.  If you have, do not use
that number any more.  It seems the telephone company gave out the same
number to two different places, ours and one other.  The other place won
out since it was a government hospital and we have been issued with a new
number that is now working.  I will give you the new number, however, since
This Is Kenya I cannot promise that it will not change sometime in the
future.  Our newest telephone number is: O11-254-387-43297.  Please make a
note of this, unless you need to talk to the local hospital.
I say our telephone number may change in the future because, in order
to have our new number installed, I had to take a telephone person to the
local exchange (due to a constant lack of telephone company vehicles), so
that he could connect the proper wires.  While at the exchange we found out
the number that was assigned to us as a new number was already in use.  We
have since had people trying to call other people and reaching us instead.
At a recent leaders meeting I had the opportunity of talking to the
men about different versions of the Bible.  As you know in America, the
Bible has been translated into many different versions.  Some of them being
good and others are not so good for various reasons.  The Luo Bible has now
been translated three different times (1952, 1968, and 1976).  The 1952
version is only owned by a few Luo people at present, since it is a very
old translation, and out of print.  However, the 1968 and 1976 versions can
still be gotten from time to time.
During the leaders meeting it was discovered that the 1968 version
(even though it is harder to understand due to changes in the Luo language
over the years), is still a better version to use, since it follows very
close to the Greek language.  The 1976 version has been corrupted by the
denominations that were allowed to work with the Bible translators during
the time of translation.  The only problem is, we have asked numerous times
for the 1968 version of the Bible in Luo, and have not been able to receive
it thus far.  Please pray for this so the Luo people can have a Bible that
scripturally follows the Greek language.
We ask that you pray for the Luo Christians as they continue to grow
in the Lord.  We are very excited about their commitment to God and His
church.  We pray that they may soon be able to carry on without outside
help, thus allowing us to go to a new area in His service.

A servant,
