Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who sustains us as we continue to labor in Kenya. We are all healthy at this time. For this we praise the Lord. We trust that you are also doing well in your various congregations in America.
A lot has happened since I last wrote to you. All of these things promise to make our work in the next few months rewarding. First, I have been given the opportunity to once again visit Madagascar. This trip is to follow up on some of the (more than 300) W.B.S. students that have been acquired over the last couple of years through the efforts of Brother Doyle Kee, and a Church in Henderson, Texas who are interested in starting a work in the capital city of Madagascar. This trip will give me a chance to talk with brother Doyle Kee in person concerning his interests in the Madagascar work, as well as find out some more information about the congregation in Henderson, Texas that is going to send a family to Antananarivo, Madagascar in January of 1997. I will also be checking on the availability of housing and rent costs for future reference if it should be needed.
I will be leaving for Madagascar from Nairobi on the 9th of April and returning the 20th. Our only reservation about this trip is that Stacy and the children will not be able to go due to school and costs for travel. Please pray for this endeavor and for Stacy and the children as they remain in Kenya.
Second, we are awaiting a visit from the Lawrence Barr family who will be returning to Kenya for a short visit (13 days) among the Luo churches in the months of May and June. The Christians have already started begging us to make sure that the Barr family visits their homes while in South Nyanza. Of course it will not be possible to schedule visits with everyone in the many different congregations, however, we hope that the Barr family will be able to visit, and teach some of their friends from past years.
Third, starting on about the 15th of June until the end of July, we will be hosting 1 high school student and 4 university students for short periods. During these visits the students will spend a lot of time out among the churches so that they can experience village life and customs for themselves. They will learn some of the Luo greetings and phrases, and teach short Bible lessons to the Luo Christians. Lord willing, some if not all of the students we host will dedicate their lives to serving in some mission capacity in the future.
We continue to see good results from the two marriage courses that were taught in March. Many more are planned in and around the above mentioned trips and visits. We see a need for teaching on marriage almost every day, as the Luo community struggles with their traditional ways in respect to the teachings of God. Due to this struggle with tradition our list of prospective students is growing daily. It is my prayer that as the Luo Christians learn about God's plan for marriage, they will be deeply commitment both to their spouses and to God.
For those people who like to call and talk with us, we realize that calls from the U.S. and other countries are not arriving. I have been in contact with the telephone company. Lord willing this will be rectified soon. I was notified by my father that the phone number at the top of the last news letter was wrong. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Our new phone number is 011-254-387-42074.
In closing, we ask for God's richest blessings on your respective works. We pray and think of you all often. Please continue to remember the Luo churches and Christians in your prayers.
Your Brother in Christ,
Barry J. Rosie
