Dear Family in Christ,
It was Thursday afternoon. We were visiting in the home of some friends of ours in Florida. Kit asked for the car keys. I assumed he wanted a toy that he had left in the car. It was about 15 minutes later when I realized he hadn't come back to the house. So I went looking for him. He was sitting in the back seat of the car, sobbing his little heart out. He missed home and wanted to go back to Kenya.
Our furlough is half over. We've been in the States for two months. We've enjoyed the smooth roads, tires that never go flat, news, and comfortable seats during worship. We've enjoyed the meals here so much that Barry has already put on 40 lbs. We've enjoyed electricity almost everyday, bathtubs that are so big you can sit down in them and everything (as Havilah puts it). We've enjoyed dressing up for a change. We've enjoyed new shoes and new clothes, new books and new gadgets. We've enjoyed autumn leaves, pumpkins, crisp juicy apples and cool weather. Most of all we have enjoyed all of you whom we have already visited.
But home is Africa, and we miss it more than you can know. We are enjoying the visit here, but our life is over there, and we are already anxious to get back. Barry is itching to get on to Madagascar and jump into that new work with both feet. I'm looking forward to having a home again and getting our clothes out of suitcases. Kit longs to herd the cows and goats with his friends. Havilah wants to see Baby Gloria Anyango again.
We've traveled over 10,000 miles by air and 5,000 miles by car, have passed thru 3 countries and 11 states, and have slept in 22 different beds. We've made 35 presentations to date about the work in Kenya. And we've hugged about 500 necks and have made a more than a few painful good-byes. But we've had so much fun sharing Christ and His wonders with those along the way. We've enjoyed so much sharing with you.
Two months remain. We're looking forward to those whom we have yet to see. We're looking forward to holidays with family. We're looking forward most of all to returning to our lives in Africa, where we belong and where we can best serve Him.
Thank you for opening your homes, and giving us royal welcomes. Thank you for being such good listeners and for having such caring mission-minded hearts. Thank you for helping. Last month we published a list of our needs. All of those needs have been met save for two. So many of you have given so generously.
We are still looking for $500 in monthly support and $6,900 of one time support to cover moving and set up expenses for the new work in Madagascar. If you are not a part of this work, we'd like for you to be a partner with us. Please pray for us and for His work in Kenya and Madagascar. And if you can help, we would appreciate it very much. You can send any donations to:
