Dear Family in Christ,
Greetings from America. We arrived safely on September 5th, and have already visited with some of you. Our trip from Kenya to the United States went well. Upon arriving in Richmond, Virginia we were greeted by the hurricane that paralyzed the east coast of the United States for several days. We felt like we were back in Kenya, since we were without electricity, hot water and telephone for four days.
I do have to admit, that we were not very happy about the unavailability of all these amenities. We had anticipated, and were looking forward to, all of the "necessities" of life. We expected to be able to call anyone we wanted, at any time that we wanted, without hassle or delay. We were wrong. We expected to be able to take a hot shower and enjoy using more than two gallons of hot water for a bath. We were wrong. We had to put all of our "desires" on hold until the utility companies could dig out from under the pile of work that was brought on the east coast.
We have survived the "storm" and are enjoying visiting with the churches and Christians in various areas. So far we have reported to six congregations, been in five different states and slept in 16 different places since leaving our home in Kenya. Tomorrow we are on the road again, as we move on to the state of Arkansas, where we will visit four more congregations.
While visiting with you in 1992, one of the items that we discussed was a possible move in 1996. When we returned to Kenya in January of 1993 we started visiting some countries that would be possible places to start a new work. I say start a new work, because the countries that we surveyed were void of the church of Christ. Some of you have seen the survey reports for the countries of Burkina Faso, Madagascar and Namibia. These survey reports have been used to select a new area of work in the Lord's Kingdom for the Rosie family. After much prayer and study on the receptivity of these three countries we have decided, along with our sponsoring congregation to enter the country of Madagascar.
As we travel from congregation to congregation we will be reporting about Madagascar and will be able to answer any questions that you might have about this new area. We are excited about moving to Madagascar and pray that the Lord will bless His church in Antananarivo (the capital city of Madagascar), while we make final preparations to move in the new year.
Your Brother in Christ,
Barry J. Rosie
